Facheca
is a village located in the Sierra de Alfaro in the centre of
Alicante's mountain area. The village is surrounded by rough limestone
formations which rise up from the Seta Valley. Its history and economy
are closely linked with the Moorish era when it formed part of the
Marquisate of Guadalest, and in 1609 Facheca's Moorish inhabitants
rose up against the expulsion decree. It is an agricultural village
that grows fruit, almonds and olives on terraces. Facheca is a small
quiet village with an unusual church located on a square with a
hundred-year old elm tree, the symbol of the village.
